Apple Together, Apple's corporate and retail union, plans to go on strike on Christmas Eve 2021. What's the protest?
The union will hold a strike to protest the conditions and working environment that they think are inadequate. They also, through their Twitter account, asked consumers not to shop at Apple stores on December 24, 2021.
"We deserve a work environment that respects us. We also deserve to be paid when we are sick. We deserve protection as frontline workers. We deserve proper health insurance," Apple Together wrote in a tweet.
"Require Apple to uphold its image with your wallet. Don't shop in stores. Don't shop online," they added.
Apple has been having problems with its employees lately. Including various cases of sexual harassment and various problems in the work environment, as quoted by us from Cnet, Friday (12/24/2021).
One of them is what Cher Scarlett, who is the leader of the #AppleToo protest, complained about. Scarlett previously worked as a software engineer before finally resigning from Apple.
He repeatedly complained of sexual harassment and racism issues but was ignored by Apple management, until he finally resigned last November.
In July 2021, a number of Apple employees also wrote a petition asking Apple to provide work location flexibility, which was related to Apple's plan - at that time - which asked its employees to start working from the office.
But now Apple has finally postponed the plan to an undetermined time limit, which is related to the spread of the new Omicron COVID-19 variant, which has recently begun to spread widely.
