Blizzard's Popular Game Rows Crash Because of DDoS

A number of games made by Blizzard could not be played for several hours due to a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.

Reported by Digital Trends, Thursday (12/16/2021), gamers who try to login to Battle.net and play Overwatch, Heartstone, and World of Warcraft cannot connect with their friends or find opponents to compete in the game.

The issue started at 10:15 p.m. EST (10:15 p.m. EST), where latency began to increase and there were connection issues in Overwatch. Namely, many gamers have complained about being disconnected from the game, and being penalized for leaving the game.

The Blizzard technical support team only acknowledged a DDoS attack at 11 p.m., and it lasted until 3 a.m. EST or around 3 p.m. WIB, (12/15/2021). It is not yet clear who is responsible for this DDoS attack.

Overwatch players who were constantly disconnected from their 'ranked' matches then took to the Blizzard forums to vent, complaining about the problem. The complaints of the players were all mixed, from the waiting time to find a match, the wait time to find a match increased, to the point where they couldn't login to Battle.net.

Heartstone and World of Warcraft players have also complained about a similar problem. Blizzard immediately displayed a notification message that said they were experiencing a DDoS attack.

"We are currently experiencing a DDoS attack, which will result in high latency and connection drops for some players. We are working to mitigate this issue," wrote Blizzard.

It was later discovered that all Blizzard games were affected by this DDoS attack, including a number of their sites such as the Blizzard Gear store and their support site. This high latency issue persisted until 2am.

This is not the first time Blizzard has been hit by a DDoS attack. On 7 September 2019 they were also hit by a DDoS attack, to be precise the World of Warcraft Classic game. The perpetrators of the attack were later arrested in late September 2019.

The most recent attack on Battle.net occurred on November 24, where they were hit by a number of different DDoS attacks that prevented players from logging into the service.
