Google Authenticator Reach 100 Million Downloads

The Google Authenticator security app that implements the two-factor-authentication (2TFA) method has been downloaded 100 million times on the Google Play Store.

2TFA itself is a security system that requires two types of authentication by its users. If the user usually just logs in by entering his email and password, then with 2FA there is another verification code which is usually sent via a cellphone number to be able to enter the account.

This Google Authenticator security app has long been left in maintenance mode as it has few features for updates. One of the latest updates is the dark mode feature in May 2020.

Google Authenticator is also getting an export feature which allows users to transfer the stored credentials for all accounts, to a new smartphone device via QR Code.

These features make the Google Authenticator application one of the most popular security applications on Android, as reported by us from Android Police, Thursday (12/23/2021).

Considering that this app has received few updates but with a milestone of 100 million downloads, this is impressive. This is also considered a good sign, as it shows that more and more people are interested in securing their accounts with extra security.

The use of two-factor-authentication (2TFA) will protect online service users from hackers, especially for those who do not have the most secure passwords.
