iPhone and Apple Watch Will Be Able to Open Hotel Rooms

One of Apple's planned features for iOS and watchOS 8 is the ability to digitally store hotel keycards on iPhone and Apple Watch.

This feature will first be available at Hyatt hotels. There are six hotel locations that will support this service, such as Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa, Hyatt House Chicago/West Loop-Fulton Market, Hyatt House Dallas/Richardson, Hyatt Place Fremont/Silicon Valley, and Hyatt Regency. Long Beach.

Later users can add hotel key cards to the Apple Wallet application after making a reservation, but still have to do manual check-in before this digital hotel key card is activated.

After that users can use it with Express mode on Apple Wallet, meaning they don't have to verify your identity using Face ID or Touch ID every time you want to enter the room.

If there are plans to change rooms or extend the stay, the digital key card can also be renewed without having to go to reception, and if the device goes into Power Reserve mode (because the battery is almost dead), the user can still make use of the digital key card for up to five hours.

This feature seems to be very useful, although still in a limited area. However, Hyatt hotels themselves are reportedly planning to bring this feature to all of their locations globally and it is hoped that other hotels will likely support the service.

Reported by us from Techradar, Apple seems to want to make its Wallet application more functional, not only hotel room keys, but also can be used as official identities such as SIM or ID cards.

For example, during the TSA security check process at the airport, users only need to show their digital documents. Apple also hopes that its function can expand in many places, not only at airports.

This feature is not yet available but Apple is currently targeting early 2022 for a US launch and is expected to roll out globally sooner or later.
