Many Tech Companies Leave CES 2022 Due to Omicron

Different from this year, CES 2022 will be held offline. But because of Omicron, many technology companies withdrew from the world's largest electronics exhibition.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) recently confirmed that CES 2022 will be held January 5-8 in Las Vegas, USA. Following the announcement, several companies including Google, Twitter, Lenovo, Intel, Meta and T-Mobile said they were pulling out of an in-person presence at CES.

However, they continued to enliven the exhibition by holding a virtual event. A series of new products will also be introduced online.

"After closely monitoring the latest trends around COVID, taking into account the health and safety of our employees, customers, partners and communities, we have had to suspend all om-site activity in Las Vegas," Lenovo said on its Twitter account.

"Despite the change in plans, we are pleased that you can all see the launch of our latest technology as scheduled on January 4 and January 5," he added.

Meanwhile, Intel in its official statement said that the health and safety of employees, partners and customers is a priority. After they consulted with health officials and considered the company's safety policies, Intel decided not to go in person to Las Vegas and switch to digital.

"We invite you to join us as we deliver virtually all CES content and experiences through the Intel Newsroom," Intel said.

Previously there were several companies that had confirmed they would hold virtual events including Samsung, LG, AMD, Nvidia, and others.

Earlier this week, CES said it had received 42 exhibitor cancellations. The amount vacated at least 7% of the exhibition area.

However, until this Friday there were 60 new exhibitors who made sure to participate in the exhibition in person. CTA notes, until now there are 2,200 participants who will take part in the CES 2022 exhibition.
