Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Confirmed Made by Samsung

After confirming that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be made using the 4nm process, Qualcomm has now confirmed that the system on a chip (SoC) will be produced by Samsung.

This confirmation came from Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, who revealed that it was Samsung who would produce their flagship SoC. Previously, the Snapdragon 888 was produced by Samsung, in contrast to the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 855 produced by TSMC.

Amon's statement was also confirmed by Alex Katouzian, SVP and GM of Qualcomm Mobile, Compute, and Infrastructure, who said that Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 would not be made by TSMC.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the flagship SoC, aka the top. Sams like the A15 Bionic from Apple or the Dimensity 9000 from MediaTek, as well as the Exynos 2200. All of these chips are made with 4nm manufacturing, which in addition to being fast, has high power efficiency.

However, the 4nm TSMC chip is said to be the most efficient compared to those made by Samsung. So far, Samsung is known to be producing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and also the Exynos 2200.

Meanwhile, the chips produced by TSMC include the A15 Bionic, M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max from Apple. The rest was used to produce the Dimensity 9000.

Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will reportedly be used in the Galaxy S22 which will be released in February 2022. That is, depending on the region, usually the Galaxy S series released in the US and China will use Snapdragon chips, while the rest will use Exynos.

Although not currently released by Samsung, the Exynos 2200 is expected to use the same CPU scheme as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000. That is, it uses three different cores, namely Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710, and Cortex-A510.

But there are also rumors that the Galaxy S22 will only use chips made by Qualcomm. According to Dutch media LetsGoDigital, Samsung is rumored to be using the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset for the Galaxy S22 series globally, and there will be no variant using the Exynos chipset.

This news comes from a former Samsung employee who is now a tipster with the name Super Roader. This tipster has previously shared several leaks about the Galaxy S22 series, including the design differences between the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+.

If these rumors are true, then this will signal a big change for Samsung. Every year, Samsung always launches its flagship phones in two variants, namely those that use Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets.
