Sony announced a new console cover for the PS5 just weeks after patenting this product. Previously, the Japanese tech giant was involved in a legal dispute with a third-party company that sold faceplates for the PS5.

Shortly after Sony launched the PS5, companies like DBrand offered black covers called Darkplates. After getting a cease-and-desist letter from Sony, DBrand stopped selling Darkplates before finally releasing a new design and mocking Sony's lawyers.
