Samsung R95H Micro RGB 4K Review – The Brightest and Best TV Yet

Every year brings new technologies with acronyms that are difficult for consumers to grasp. This year sees the arrival of Micro RGB technology, promising absolute brightness without the screen burn issues associated with OLED panels. After years of testing TVs , I consider the Samsung R95H the most amazing model to ever enter our test lab. It quite literally—and visibly—offers improvements that are clearly apparent to the naked eye.

DESIGN

The Samsung R95H model reviewed here features a 75-inch micro RGB screen; an 85-inch model is also available, both sporting the "Infinity Air" design characterized by ultra-thin bezels. When paired with its compact stand, the TV appears to float above the tabletop surface.

This year, all Samsung TVs support only 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixel) resolution, with no 8K models included in the lineup. No new 8K TVs were launched this year, and I believe this clearly signals that the trend has died out—much like 3D panels did over a decade ago.

The screen features the same anti-reflective coating found on last year's Neo QLED 8K QN990F series. It minimizes daytime glare and eliminates the unsettling "Black Mirror" effect—where the user sees their own reflection—that often occurs when the TV is turned off. Consequently, content remains clearly visible even in brightly lit rooms or during broad daylight viewing. Micro RGB panels still require backlighting, making them thicker than the OLED TVs Samsung has previously offered. However, since each light source consists of an LED as small as 100 microns, the display delivers superior image sharpness compared to earlier Mini LED models. Pixel-level color control eliminates the need for a quantum dot (QD) layer, resulting in more accurate, vibrant colors and deep blacks that rival OLED performance.

That said, the R95H is thicker than the QN990F because the Wireless One Connect box is no longer included in the standard package. While the box—which enables wireless input connections from up to 10 meters away—is still supported, it must be purchased separately. On the R95H, all input connections must be made directly to the back of the TV; for enthusiasts who prefer a clutter-free setup, this is somewhat disappointing.

The R95H comes with a built-in DVB-T2 decoder. Its I/O options include four HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB-A 2.0 ports, one RJ45 LAN port, and one RF antenna connection. All HDMI ports support 4K at 165 Hz—a feature sure to delight users with multiple home gaming consoles. There is no longer any guesswork involved in determining which HDMI port to use for a PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, or Steam Machine to achieve high frame rates.

The TV features an L-shaped "Infinity Air" stand with a slim profile. This practical design allows accessories such as soundbars, consoles, satellite TV decoders, and Apple TV units to be placed beneath the screen without space constraints. This design has been in use for three generations; there is no need to reinvent the wheel when the existing design is already practical.

If you prefer wall-mounting the TV, there is a VESA 400×400 mm mount on the back. The R95H is also compatible with Slim Fit and Full Motion Slim mounts. Internet connectivity is provided via LAN or WiFi 6E, while accessory pairing uses Bluetooth 5.3.

USAGE AND VISUAL QUALITY

The R95H panel is the brightest I have ever reviewed at the lab. When the TV was first turned on, the white Samsung logo displayed on the screen was blindingly bright. Despite the high brightness, I noticed there was no significant blooming, unlike with standard LED TVs. Samsung states that the R95H’s peak brightness reaches 2,500 nits—significantly brighter than the approximately 1,700 nits found on the QN990F. The difference in brightness was so stark that it hurt my eyes, making me feel like Dracula exposed to sunlight.

Don't worry about your retinas burning when using the R95H. Sensors detect the ambient light and automatically adjust the screen brightness, much like a smartphone display. The extreme brightness I mentioned earlier only occurred when the TV was first powered on.

The high brightness of the R95H is essential for displaying HDR content as intended. Seven years ago, the "The Long Night" episode of *Game of Thrones* was criticized for being so dark that the battle action was barely visible. I recall the backlash HBO faced after claiming the episode had undergone the proper HDR mastering process; it was only after watching the episode on the R95H that I could truly appreciate the director's vision.

In my testing, HDR mode was supported across Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, and Apple TV apps. Currently, all major streaming platforms support HDR10+ playback on the R95H panel. Once again, Samsung has omitted Dolby Vision support, as it requires additional licensing.

Samsung has also included "Filmmaker Mode" for viewers who prefer to watch content in its original format, free from the TV's additional processing settings. Reflecting the current era of artificial intelligence (AI), the R95H features an "AI Mode" that automatically adjusts on-screen settings based on the content genre. While I noticed that content appeared brighter and colors more vibrant, this mode wasn't suitable for every movie I watched.

One AI feature I found particularly effective is "AI Soccer Mode." When activated, soccer matches appear more lifelike, creating the sensation of the action unfolding right before your eyes. Unfortunately, I reviewed the R95H after the World Cup had concluded; the viewing experience would undoubtedly have been different had I used this TV during the tournament.

Another included feature is "Auto HDR Remastering Pro," which automatically converts SDR content into HDR. Accessibility features are also supported, such as the automatic generation of subtitles for content that lacks them. Additionally, video upscaling comes standard, consistent with Samsung's previous flagship TV models. One point worth noting is that to enjoy content at the highest quality, you need a fast home internet connection. At the office, we experienced some internet instability while testing the TV; low-bitrate video caused stuttering, inaccurate colors, ghosting effects, and pixelation.

To appreciate the sharpness of the 75-inch 4K panel, you need to sit about 5 feet away. This differs from last year's 8K models, which offered much higher sharpness. However, I am confident that if you can afford the R95H, you can also afford a high-speed internet plan and have a spacious living room.

GAMING

With 165Hz VRR support across four HDMI inputs, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and ultra-wide mode support, the R95H is an excellent TV for gamers. The visuals appear sharp and bright, making me feel truly immersed in the game world.

Game Bar

The Game Bar feature—accessed by holding down the Play button on the remote—allows you to adjust the ultra-wide screen ratio (PC only) and select modes for different game genres (FPS, MMO, racing, etc.). You can also control settings like VRR, Game Motion Plus, and input lag reduction directly from this menu. The R95H can even display an on-screen crosshair to make aiming easier in FPS games. There are no new features in this year's Game Bar compared to last year's model.

AUDIO QUALITY

The 4.2.2 channel speaker system delivers 70W of output and supports Dolby Atmos, DTS TruSurround, and Eclipsa Audio. Eclipsa is a format developed by Samsung and Google as an alternative to Dolby Atmos; currently, only YouTube supports it. The audio quality is excellent for a built-in speaker system. The audio feels lifelike, with sounds clearly audible—especially when the mode prioritizing dialogue is activated. Much like on Galaxy phones, there is an AI system that reduces background noise to enhance the clarity of conversations and dialogue.

The TV supports the Q-Symphony audio system, enabling seamless integration with Samsung soundbars. When activated, both the TV speakers and the soundbar operate simultaneously to deliver a more immersive audio experience.

TIZEN SMART TV OS

Tizen Smart TV OS is the dominant operating system, owing to Samsung's massive share of the global smart TV market. Consequently, a wide range of essential apps can be downloaded from the app store. YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Video come pre-installed. Tizen boasts the fastest boot time of any smart TV operating system I have used—a stark contrast to Google TV, which can take nearly a minute to start up.

Other apps such as Apple TV, Astro, RTMklik, UnifiTV, HBO Max, Nebula, iQiyi, Viu, Twitch, TikTok, WeTV, Sooka, Spotify, Apple Music, and many more are available for download. With 25GB of storage, you can install numerous apps without worrying about running out of space. All applications launch quickly, with no long wait times.

The R95H is not merely a smart TV but a hub for various services and connected home devices. Through SmartThings and Matter integration, multiple smart home ecosystems can be accessed directly from the TV. You can receive notifications—such as when a washing machine cycle is complete—and view your front door camera feed right on the TV screen.

For Samsung device users, built-in features include Wireless DeX, which allows you to mirror your device screen and access photos stored on the device directly on the TV. You can even display your phone screen and TV apps simultaneously using the Multi View feature. Finally, there is support for Google Photos, enabling cloud-stored videos to be streamed directly to the TV.

It also features "Art Mode," which displays renowned artworks as the background image—a mode clearly adopted from the "The Frame" series. Going a step further, if you prefer more varied imagery, the Samsung Vision AI feature can generate background images based on selected prompts. Users within the Apple ecosystem can utilize AirPlay 2 to stream content from MacBooks, iPhones, and iPads directly to the TV.

Samsung provides seven years of Tizen OS software updates, matching the support offered for its smartphones. This seven-year support ensures not only security but also prevents issues related to DRM and software obsolescence over time; expired DRM often restricts streaming platforms to playing videos only in low HD resolution.

REMOTE CONTROL

The device comes with the "Smart Remote" that has been used for the past three years. It controls not only the TV itself but also various Samsung accessories connected to it. It includes four dedicated shortcut buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and the web browser. The icons on the remote are intuitive and easy to understand without needing to consult the manual. One change made is a larger battery bump on the underside. Like all Smart Remotes, it can be charged via USB-C or fully powered by solar energy.

CONCLUSION

The Samsung R95H is a solid performer that meets all the needs of a home smart TV. It delivers the brightest visuals with accurate color reproduction. The operating system is fast and offers all popular apps. Additional features allow it to serve as a smart home hub, and it integrates seamlessly with your existing Galaxy devices.

On the downside, it still lacks Dolby Vision support, and—oddly enough—the Wireless One Connect Box offered with Samsung’s flagship TVs last year must be purchased separately. Prices start at RM21,999 for the 75-inch model and RM29,999 for the 85-inch model. While the price is high, you have to pay a premium to experience Samsung's best visual quality this year.
