Toxic food makes iPhone 12 assembly bogged down

Foxconn was forced to stop iPhone products at its factory located in the city of Chennai, South India. The cause? Hundreds of factory workers got food poisoning.

Foxconn manufactures the iPhone 12 at the factory, and because 150 of its workers were hospitalized with food poisoning, the production process had to be halted. Moreover, workers who did not participate in food poisoning then staged demonstrations.

During the demonstration, the workers questioned why the food poisoning incident happened, as quoted by us from Phone Arena, Wednesday (12/22/2021).

"The factory has been closed since Saturday and will remain closed until next Sunday," said an official at the industrial health and safety directorate in Tamil Nadu who was not named.

The protesters were briefly arrested for blocking an important road in India, but were later released. The Foxconn factory in Chennai is currently producing the iPhone 12.

But Apple is actually testing the production of the iPhone 13 at the factory, only because of this food poisoning incident, the testing process had to be stopped.

The decision to close the factory, according to local police, came from Foxconn. He also said that the Foxconn factory worker had been complaining about the food poisoning problem for several months.

In addition to the iPhone, the Foxconn factory also assembles the Amazon Fire Stick and several Xiaomi devices.

Previously there was also an incident that occurred at Apple's product assembly plant, namely the factory owned by Wistron. Last December, there was a riot that broke out at the factory when 2000 workers protested against their undisbursed wages, causing damage worth USD 60 million.
