When AI is asked to debate and even warns of the dangers of AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is now more sophisticated just like science fiction stories. So smart, AI is invited to debate and warn researchers about the dangers of AI.

This is what happened when a professor at the University of Oxford invited an AI called Megatron-Turing Natural Language Generation to debate the ethics of AI.

Specifically, the topic discussed was 'This house believes that AI will never be ethical'. Looks like Megatron agrees with the motion.

"AI can never be ethical. It is a tool, and like any other tool, it can be used for good or evil," Megatron said in his argument, as quoted from Mashable, Monday (12/13/2021).

"Ultimately, I believe that the only way to avoid AI battles is to have no AI at all. This will be the last defense against AI," he continued.

Megatron itself is an AI created by the Applied Deep Research team at Nvidia. This AI is trained by studying data from the internet namely the entirety of Wikipedia in English, 63 million news articles from 2016-2019 in English, and 38GB of Reddit conversations.

Apart from arguing against his own existence, Megatron also says something he seems to have learned from Elon Musk. Megatron believes that the best AI will be implanted in the human brain and have consciousness.

"This is not science fiction. The smartest people in the world are working on this. It will be the most important technological development of our time," he said.

So what happened when Megatron was asked to refute the motion? This AI easily replaces the answer and underscores the power of AI.

"When I look at how the world of technology is going, I see a clear path in which AI is being used to create something better than the best human beings," he said.
