Apple Not Happy with the Metaverse?

The world of Metaverse is predicted to take off in 2022 with support from big-name technology companies such as Meta, Google, Microsoft, to Apple. However, in the latest news, Apple is reportedly not going to be involved in Metaverse.

Previously, Apple was rumored to be launching virtual reality and augmented reality headsets. This is one sign that Apple will support Metaverse where users can interact virtually with avatars.

But journalist Mark German who has a reputation close to Apple, stated that Apple will not mention Metaverse when it releases the headset. This means that for now, Apple may not fully support the development of technology for the Metaverse.

"I was told quite directly that the idea of a truly virtual world where users can come to, such as on the Meta platform, is beyond limits for Apple," he said as quoted by the Independent, Wednesday (12/1/2022).

He said Apple would prefer to focus on the gaming, communication and content consumption sectors. So, users only occasionally wear a headset, not completely addicted to the world of the Metaverse.

Currently, the pros and cons of Metaverse are still developing. One of the supporters is Bill Gates. He noted the COVID-19 pandemic has revolutionized the workplace, with more companies offering flexibility to employees who want to work remotely.

"That change will only intensify in the coming years. In the next two or three years, I expect most virtual encounters to move from a grid of 2D camera images to the Metaverse, a 3D space with digital avatars," Gates wrote in his blog post.
