Cool! Samsung Unveils 4 New Folding Screen Innovations at CES 2022

Samsung is currently still the leader in the foldable phone market. After presenting the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, this South Korean vendor showcased a new generation of folding screen technology at CES 2022.

This concept was showcased by the Samsung Display division, not Samsung Mobile which produces Galaxy phones. But it's not impossible that the concept on display will be present on Galaxy devices in the future.

The first concept is the Samsung Flex S and Flex G. Both of these concepts have a three-part screen that can be folded twice but with a slightly different design.

The Flex S can be folded into an 'S' shape and is available as a tablet and phone. The tablet version is fairly large with a 16:10 ratio which when folded can turn into a phone with a fairly large screen.

While the phone version looks like a 4-inch device when folded and when opened it turns into a mini tablet. Uniquely, on one side there is a transparent acrylic that can still display information even if the phone screen is closed once.

Then there is the Flex G which at first glance looks like the mobile version of the Flex S. The difference is, this concept is folded inside into a 'G' shape so that all the screens can be protected.

On the side of the device is a fairly large bezel that Samsung uses to house the camera and S Pen stylus. This design is suitable for devices intended for outdoor activities because users don't have to worry about the screen being scratched.

Switch to the Flex Note concept which is unfortunately not the next evolution of the Galaxy Note phone. This is Samsung's concept for a foldable laptop, similar to the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED which was also showcased at CES 2022.

With this design, the laptop certainly does not have a physical keyboard on the bottom. Users can also adjust the bottom section according to their needs, such as the on-screen keyboard for typing, the input pad for drawing, or the controller when editing videos.

Lastly, there is the Flex Slidable concept. As the name implies, this phone has a second screen that can be shifted to make the main screen bigger. If this concept sounds familiar, it's because Oppo also showcased a similar prototype called Oppo X 2021 last year.

Just like the Oppo X 2021, the Flex Slidable looks like a regular phone. When activated, the second screen will appear from the side and provide extra display space for the user. In the demonstration video, Samsung demonstrates how this design can be used to access application shortcuts.
