Sony has unveiled the specifications for its virtual reality (VR) headset for the PS5, which is dubbed the PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2).
This VR headset can only be used exclusively on PS5, just like PlayStation VR which was released in 2016 for PS4. However, PSVR 2 may only be released at the end of 2022, in fact it may be delayed until 2023 due to component supply problems.
In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Sony only revealed a few things about the headset, such as the official name and also the official name for the VR controller, namely PlayStation VR2 Sense.
Sony also promises PSVR 2 will take VR gaming to a new level, and the headset has a very significant specification increase, which will give players the opportunity to dive deeper into the game world.
The VR2 Sense controller is also equipped with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, just like the DualSense. According to Sony, this feature will increase the taste sensation for the players.
Regarding specifications, PSVR 2 is not only able to take advantage of the capabilities of the PS5 hardware, but also a significant increase in specifications, such as a higher screen resolution (2000 x 2040 pixels for each eye, or a total of 4000 x 2040 pixels), 90/120Hz refresh rate, and an OLED panel for the display, which also supports HDR and a 110-degree field of view.
PSVR 2 can also detect the user's movement, both inside and outside. That is, this headset can detect the user's eye movements, and also detect hand movements through the controller without the need for an external camera.
This eye movement sensor can be an additional input for the characters in the game. For example, players can interact more intuitively and more realistically.
Sony also revealed that the popular PlayStation mainstay game franchise will also be present on PSVR 2, entitled Horizon Call of the Mountain from Guerrilla and Firesprite.
But unfortunately, Sony has not revealed when this headset will be released, nor is the price yet known.
