Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Hotter than Snapdragon 888?

Snapdragon 888, which is the mainstay of HP's 2021 output, does have high performance, but the heat generated is also very high. Well, reportedly Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be hotter than its predecessor.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is produced by Samsung Foundry using a 4nm process, the same as the Exynos 2200 which will use a GPU with AMD's RDNA 2 architecture.

When testing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 used in the Motorola Edge X30, Ice Universe said the temperature was very hot, as quoted by us from Phone Arena, Monday (3/1/2022).

Then in further testing, the Ice Unverse claim was confirmed by @Golden_Reviewer. According to him, the cores used in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 do have higher performance than Snapdragon 888, but the power consumption is much higher, as well as lower power efficiency.

For example on the four power-efficient cores of the A510, the performance is 15% higher than the A55 in Snapdragon 888, but the power consumption is 69% higher and the power efficiency is 33% lower.

"A710 (mid-core) and A510 don't look good," wrote Golden Reviewer in a Twitter post.

Then he continued his review on the other cores. For example, in the X2 core, which is the fastest core in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, its performance in the SPECint06 test only increased 15%, while its performance per watt (efficiency) was lower.

Meanwhile, for the A710, he said it was no better than the A78 used in Snapdragon 888. However, the performance that increased dramatically in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was in the GPU sector.

According to Golden Reviewer, this GPU is 50% faster than before and 44% more efficient. In fact, he did not hesitate to say that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 GPU is almost as good as the GPU in the A15 Bionic used in the iPhone 13 series.

He did not mention the heat in Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. However, with this higher power consumption, the waste heat generated will automatically be higher as well.
