Twitter Develops Flock Feature, Similar to Close Friend Instagram

Twitter is developing new features that can improve user privacy while limiting the audience for their tweets. This feature called Flock works similarly to Close Friend in Instagram Stories.

The concept of this feature has actually been announced by Twitter since July last year. At that time they announced three concept features, one of which was called Trusted Friends, and now the feature seems to carry a new name, namely Twitter Flock.

This feature is found in the Twitter for Android app version 9.27.0-beta.2. The series of codes found in the beta app clearly demonstrates how the Flock feature works which allows users to limit the visibility of their tweets to a group of users.

Just like the Close Friends feature in Instagram Stories, Twitter gives users the option to add other users to their Flock and only Flock members can view and reply to their tweets.

Developer Alex Paluzzi also managed to enable this feature before it was released. From the screenshots he shared on Twitter, this feature allows users to add 150 people to their Flock.

If a user restricts their tweet and only shares it to the Flock group, only group members can see and reply to the tweet.

Users are free to add or remove people from their Flock groups at any time, and people kicked from groups will not get notifications from Twitter. But Twitter will notify users if someone else adds them to Flock, as quoted from XDA Developers, Monday (24/1/2022).

Twitter Flock will certainly be useful for users who have multiple accounts, such as personal accounts and alternative accounts to talk about certain topics. With this feature, users can choose the audience according to the topic of the tweet to be uploaded.

This feature is still under development and not yet active in the latest Twitter update. It is not yet known when this feature will be beta tested for later rolling out to all users.
