There have been many criticisms of the Starlink internet satellite project, which has been launched into space by Elon Musk's company, SpaceX. Recently, the NASA space agency also gave a warning.
NASA warns that the constellation of SpaceX's many satellites could endanger the lives of astronauts and even threaten humans on Planet Earth.
In its report, NASA called the planned launch of up to 3,000 Starlink satellites a big risk. For example, the potential for a collision with a manned space mission, the delay of a launch due to the path taken by Starlink to obstruct dangerous asteroid monitoring telescopes.
"NASA is concerned about the potential significant increase in the likelihood of a collision with NASA's scientific and humanitarian missions," they said, as quoted by us from Futurism.
NASA is actually on good terms with SpaceX, where SpaceX for example has been awarded contracts to send logistics and human missions to the space station. So if they give a warning, it means the problem is quite serious.
NASA also casts doubt on SpaceX's claim that its satellite can maneuver autonomously to avoid other approaching craft. Moreover, there are so many satellites that SpaceX may not be able to fully control them.
If, for example, the ISS crashes into one of these satellites, it could endanger the safety of the astronauts on board. NASA also highlighted that the SpaceX satellite would hinder observations of the asteroid which could be fatal.
"NASA estimates that there will be a Starlink for every asteroid photo taken in order to protect the planet from dangerous asteroids, which reduces the effectiveness of this survey," NASA said.
