Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has made another big donation. This time he donated USD 7 million to humanitarian organizations helping the crisis in Ukraine.
Quoted from TMZ, Friday (3/18/2022) the donation was distributed equally to seven organizations, each of which received USD 1 million. Dorsey doesn't make the donation public, but the expenses are recorded through the Start Small LLC tracker, which can be accessed here.
Start Small LLC is a charitable foundation that Dorsey founded in April 2020. At that time he committed to donating a third of his wealth to Start Small, and to date his foundation has distributed aid worth USD 464 million.
Through Start Small, Dorsey also donated USD 1 billion to tackle COVID-19. For the sake of transparency, Dorsey also records all donations made by Start Small in a publicly accessible Google Sheet.
From the document, Dorsey seems to channel his donations to seven different organizations with different goals, namely:
- Nova Ukraine: a humanitarian aid group based in Silicon Valley and run by Ukrainians working in the technology industry.
- CARE: an organization that provides food, water, medical equipment and cash assistance through the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, primarily for women, families and the elderly.
- GlobalGiving: a group that provides humanitarian assistance to affected communities in Ukraine and surrounding areas that have been displaced by refugees.
- World Central Kitchen: an organization that provides thousands of hot meals for Ukrainians.
- Sunflower of Peace: a group that distributes first aid kits, drugs, and medical equipment for health workers and doctors in war-affected areas of Ukraine.
- Razom: a group that provides medical needs and humanitarian assistance and helps rebuild Ukraine.
- Mery Corps: a global group that provides cash assistance and connects displaced Ukrainians with important information, such as finding safe routes in Ukraine, Romania and Poland.
Dorsey's contribution came to light after the Russian government blocked Twitter for discriminating against Russian media. Before being blocked, Twitter had limited access to Kremlin-backed media, including RT News and Sputnik.
Dorsey was also teased by the head of the Russian space agency Dmitry Rogozin. In his tweet on Twitter, Rogozin uploaded an edited photo showing the faces of Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg in military uniforms.
