Indonesia's Internet Speed in Early 2022: Still the Slowest in Southeast Asia


 Indonesia's internet speed in January 2022 is fairly fast. But unfortunately, when viewed from the perspective of the Southeast Asian region, Indonesia's connections still have to struggle from a low position.

In its January Speedtest Global Index report, Speedtest measures the ranking of average mobile and fixed broadband internet speeds from around the world.


In the first month of 2022, the world's average internet speed for the mobile category touched 29.60 Mbps download, 8.44 Mbps upload, and 29 ms latency. The United Arab Emirates is the fastest mobile internet country in the world with 134.41 Mbps.


In the fixed broadband category, the average internet download speed is 59.86 Mbps, up to 25.53 Mbps, and latency of 10 ms. In this category, Monaco is the champion with 192.68 Mbps connection.

What is the Latest Indonesian Internet Speed?

When it comes to mobile internet connections to connect Indonesians to surf the virtual world in January 2022, Indonesia's ranking has increased. Indonesia's internet ranking shot 10 places to rank 103rd out of 140 countries in the world.


If it is narrowed down to the Southeast Asia region, Indonesia seems to have to fight extra super. Because Indonesia's mobile internet speed has not changed from last year, it is still in the most distended position.

Thailand average internet speed 32.38 Mbps (ranked 56)

Laos internet speed average 23.47 Mbps (rank 76)

Philippines average internet speed 17.95 (rank 92)

Cambodia average internet speed 16.82 Mbps (rank 99)

Indonesia average internet speed 16.36 Mbps (rank 103)

Meanwhile, the internet speed for the fixed broadband category in Indonesia has actually slipped slightly, down one place from the previous month to rank 115 out of 179 countries in the world.
