Remember Winamp? This Old-school App is Now Selling NFT

The 90's and early 2000's generations will remember the Winamp digital music player. The latest news from this old school application, they are now diving into the world of NFT (non fungible tokens).

Guess what Winamp sells as NFT? Winamp original skins! Winamp's inaugural graphical display will go on sale on OpenSea starting May 16 and the offer lasts until May 22.

In addition to the legendary original skins, Winamp also makes Winamp design competitions for artists. Their work will be sold via NFT at the same time as Winamp's premiere sale on OpenSea. Proceeds from the sale will be shared for donations as well as for the artists who created them.

"Submit your Winamp skin derivative designs. The Winamp team will check every cryptoArt submitted, and 20 derivatives will be selected for sale as NFT Winamp," said Winamp via its website.

The twenty selected cryptoArts will be multiplied approximately 100 times to bring their total NFT to 1997, referring to the year Winamp was launched.

Each of these NFT items will be priced at 0.08 ETH, which is roughly USD225 at current conversion rates. So if all 1997 NFTs were sold, the total value would be almost USD450 thousand.

The proceeds from the sale through the NFT will be distributed to the Winamp Foundation. All of the funds will be used to support the activities of various non-profit organizations, including those in the music sector.

Winamp said the sale of the NFT was one of the efforts to re-launch Winamp's name in the global community as well as part of their regular charity program.

Winamp's Head of Business Development, Thierry Ascarez said the activity was also carried out as a form of support for the development of digital technology and the rapidly growing world of blockchain.
