Samsung is finally following in the footsteps of other tech companies that stopped selling their products in Russia after the country invaded Ukraine.
Samsung has now stopped shipping all of its products to Russia, which they did given the development of geopolitical conditions in Russia. They said they would continue to monitor the latest situation to determine the next steps.
"Due to the current development of geopolitical conditions, we have stopped shipments to Russia. We continue to monitor this complex situation to determine next steps," Samsung wrote in a statement, as quoted by The Verge, Saturday (5/3/2022).
The products that were stopped from shipping to Russia are not only cellphones, but all Samsung products, from chips for cellphones to various consumer electronic products. This should have a huge impact on Russia, as one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers has stopped shipping its products to Russia.
Not only that, Samsung also donated a sum of money for humanitarian action of USD 6 million, including USD 1 million in the form of electronic products.
"We pray for all those affected and our priority is the safety of employees and their families. We plan to actively support humanitarian action in this country, including aid for refugees. For this we donated USD 6 million, including USD 1 million in consumer electronic products. , as well as voluntary donations from our employees," explained Samsung.
Samsung is the latest company to take steps regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Previously, Apple, EA, Microsoft, and game developer CD Projekt Red stopped all sales in Russia.
Then there's Google, which stops selling ads in Russia, Reddit, which blocks all links to Russian state-owned media, and Facebook and Twitter, which have similar moves to punish Russia.
But Russia also has resistance in the realm of technology, they slow down access to Twitter and block access to Facebook.
