This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 has been cancelled. The biggest gaming party in the world will be held again in 2023.
The cancellation of E3 2022 was confirmed directly by the Entertainment Software Association as the organizer. Both physical and virtual events planned for E3 2022 will be cancelled.
ESA originally planned physical and virtual events for this year's E3, having missed 2020 and held a digital event in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But plans to hold a physical event were canceled in January 2022, and ESA announced this year's E3 will be held exclusively online for the safety of partners and participants amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A few months later ESA announced all E3 events were canceled and would return in 2023.
"We will devote all of our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer," ESA said in an official statement, as quoted from Engadget, Saturday (2/4/2022).
"We look forward to bringing E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023."
The fate of the E3 event has continued to be a question mark lately, and has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic which has made physical events impossible. Not long ago, several visitors to the Game Developer Conference event were reported to have tested positive for COVID-19.
In addition to the effects of the pandemic, E3 is also starting to be abandoned by game developers and publishers who choose to hold their own events, such as Nintendo Direct, EA Play Live, and Sony State of Play.
