Elon Musk to discuss with employees after joining Twitter board

The joining of Elon Musk with Twitter's board caused a lot of backlash among employees. To that end, Musk will talk directly to Twitter employees through town hall discussions.

Twitter will hold an AMA (ask me anything) session with Musk so employees can voice their concerns about joining the company's board of directors.

"After the announcement of our board of directors, many of you have had different types of questions about Elon Musk, and I would like to welcome you to ask him those questions," Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal said in an internal company email, as quoted by The Washington Post.

Town hall is a session where employees can directly ask company officials. This is a tradition in Silicon Valley, but usually rarely involves members of the board.

When this town hall will be implemented is still unknown. Musk himself is currently still busy with the Tesla Cyber Rodeo event to open a new Gigafactory factory in Austin, Texas.

Shortly after Musk took over 9.2% of Twitter and became its largest shareholder, many employees were wary of the SpaceX and Tesla boss' influence. Moreover, Musk has criticized the content moderation policy on Twitter several times before.

In addition, Musk's arrival is also feared to change Twitter's relatively liberal work culture. Many Twitter employees say Musk often posts insensitive tweets, such as mocking the transgender community, tweets alluding to the handling of COVID-19, and so on.

That led one employee to say that if they posted an offensive tweet like Musk's, they would definitely be called HR. "Do members of the board of directors have the same standards?" said the employee on the company's Slack channel.

Another employee who has worked at Tesla said he had seen a lot of bad changes in the company's work culture after Musk took over as CEO.

"I'm really scared now, because I've seen what he can do firsthand," the employee said.

Twitter's own top brass stepped in to remind employees that the company's culture would not change and Musk would not play a role in major policymaking. They also emphasized that the final decision rests with Agrawal as CEO.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey said Agrawal and Musk would make a great team. In the AMA invitation email, Agrawal seemed to indicate that Musk would have a bigger role.

"Various views and voices define our service. And that should also be reflected and embraced internally," wrote Agrawal
