Enjoying Life, This Couple Explores America On A School Bus Turned Into Home!

The pandemic has changed many aspects of human life, one of which is how to enjoy life. For example, a couple named Pooja and Kumar decide to explore the United States by turning a school bus into a home.

When the company they worked for implemented remote work in March 2020, Pooja and Kumar decided to find a new lifestyle. This is what prompted them to turn the school bus into a house.

"We used to travel two hours each way from our area every weekend to change things up. One day, we thought, 'Why go home to sleep? How can we keep traveling?' from Insiders.

The couple eventually bought a school bus, redesigned it, and began their journey across the United States.

Reasons for Choosing School Bus

After researching and getting help from a friend who owns a bus, Pooja and Kumar finally bought a school bus in January 2021 for 10 thousand USD or equivalent to Rp. 143 million. They assume that the school bus is chosen because it is safer.

Unlike RVs (recreational vehicles), school buses are built with windows made of laminated glass and a body made of steel. While the RV is made of an aluminum frame and fiberglass cover, which is a less durable material.

Once they bought the school bus and sold the apartment, Pooja and Kumar spent weeks turning the vehicle into the mobile home of their dreams.

"We were a little taken aback after buying the bus, and thinking what we had done. But when we felt ready, we sketched, laid out a floor plan, and did research on everything from plumbing, toilets, batteries, diesel, cables, security, water tanks, even how to fill oil," said Kumar.

Starting a Journey Without a Plan

After the school bus was completed converted into a dream home, the couple finally started their journey in June 2021. So far, they have visited Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, and Northern California. .

One of Pooja's missions is to be the sole driver on the journey. To date, he has covered more than 7,000 miles.

While traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple said they were diligent about adhering to health protocols and always wearing masks when meeting other people.

Work while Traveling

Pooja and Kumar continue to work remotely in the midst of their adventure around the United States. They also learn how to balance between career and time to travel, or in short, work life balance. According to Kumar, the key is in making a schedule.

"We make sure to manage our hours as best we can. From there, we organize key travel days and keep certain times of the day open to enjoy where we are, whether it's a long lunch break or an early riser." very early in the morning before work to climb," said Kumar.

In addition, having an internet network that functions optimally is also key when working remotely. They also try to identify locations where they can work beforehand.

Both do not have a date when they will end the fun adventure. However, they are aware of when their body or schedule requires them to slow down or change direction.

Above all, say Pooja and Kumar, their goal is to stay awake at the place of their dreams. Wow, that's really fun!
