Apple Watch 8 Will Show Body Temperature Measurement

The body temperature sensor feature on Apple's smartwatch is rumored to be presented on the Apple Watch Series 7, unfortunately that's not the case. Well, the latest news is that this feature will be on the Apple Watch Series 8.

According to a report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a tweet on Twitter he said that Apple canceled body temperature measurements for the Apple Watch Series 7 because the algorithm failed to qualify before entering the EVT stage last year.

"I believe Apple Watch Series 8 in 2H22 can measure body temperature if the algorithm can meet Apple's high requirements before mass production." he said.

Kuo's report corroborates news shared by Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal about the upcoming body temperature sensor in the Apple Watch Series 8.

Since the wrist is not where people normally take body temperature, an accurate algorithm is more than necessary to make this sensor work.

"The challenge in applying precise body temperature measurements is that skin temperature quickly varies depending on the external environment," explains Kuo.

"A smartwatch can't support core temperature measurement in terms of hardware, so it needs very good algorithms to work together." he continued.

Analysts also provide examples of what Samsung is also dealing with.

"Unlike previous media reports, I think the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 in 2H22 may not support body temperature measurement due to algorithm limitations."
