Goodbye! YouTube Go Will Shut Down August 2022

Google decided to discontinue the YouTube Go service in August 2022.

"Today, we are announcing that YouTube Go will be discontinued starting in August," wrote Meaghan, the YouTube Team initiated the announcement of YouTube Go's shutdown.

Users who still access this service are advised to switch to the main YouTube, either by downloading the application or via a browser.

Meaghan mentions a number of advantages that are not on YouTube Go but are on YouTube, such as being able to comment, post, create content, and activate the dark theme.

When it was first introduced in 2016, YouTube Go was designed to serve areas that have problems with connectivity or slow internet, data package prices, and solutions for people who still have old-school phones.

Since then, YouTube has invested in improvements to the main YouTube app that have made it perform better in environments that were once only accessible to YouTube Go.

"Specifically, we've improved performance for entry-level devices or devices that watch YouTube on slower networks. We've also built additional user controls that help reduce mobile data usage for viewers with limited data - so stay tuned for more updates." .

At the end of the announcement, Meaghan thanked YouTube Go users.

"Thanks to our YouTube Go users - we're excited to welcome you to the premier community of the YouTube app."
