Huawei has released a folding screen cellphone to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in the global market. The device is called Huawei Mate Xs 2, here are the specifications and prices.
Still carrying a design like its predecessor which folds the screen on the outside. When stretched, Mate Xs 2 has a 7.8-inch screen with a resolution of 2480 × 2200 pixels. Meanwhile, when folded, the front screen becomes 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2480 × 1176 pixels.
Huawei uses OLED panels. Both when opened and folded, the Mate Xs 2 screen has a refresh rate of 120Hz with a touch sampling rate of 240 Hz.
"When this phone is folded, the screen-to-body ratio is still very high, reaching 89.4%. It is very comfortable to use because of its compact design," said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group during a launch event held online on Wednesday night ( 18/5/2022).
Huawei claims to increase the flatness of the screen from the previous generation by up to 70%. In addition, it adopts a durable Falcon Wing hinge design and maintains the flatness of the screen thereby reducing screen folds.
The Mate Xs 2 is made thin and light. This cellphone has a thickness of 5.4 mm and weighs 255 grams. Even so, Huawei promises that this new device is strong and sturdy.
"We use aerospace-grade titanium material, smooth fiberglass and advanced MIM steel. So making this phone strong, sturdy but still light," Richard claims.
Huawei also increases the resistance to drop by 2.5 times, impact 2.8 times and being run over by 1.4 times. This is thanks to the protective layer embedded in the hinges and the screen which is said to be inspired by the car.
Regarding photography, Huawei embeds three rear cameras. There is a 50 MP True-Chroma main camera with f/1.8 aperture coupled with a 13 MP ultra-wide lens and an 8 MP telephoto with optical zoom capability. While on the screen there is a selfie camera measuring 10.7 MO,
"We provide a 10-channel Multi-Spectrum Sensor that helps users accurately capture true colors. We also introduce the latest generation of Huawei XD Optic with a more advanced optical system imaging restoration technology, providing enhanced image clarity and detail, both ultra-wide, macro to portraits," said Richard.
Unfortunately, Huawei does not capitalize on the Mate Xs with the latest processor. The kitchen is powered by Snapdragon 888 which is formulated with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory.
This phone runs HarmonyOS 2 which offers features specifically made for foldable devices, from dynamic themes to the latest multi-window capabilities for easy multitasking.
The Mate Xs 2 is equipped with a 4,600 mAh battery with 66W fast charging technology that promises to charge 90% in 30 minutes. The connections provided are 4G VoLTE, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and USB Type C. Not to mention Huawei has installed dual speakers and a fingerprint sensor that is integrated with the power button on the side of the body.
Huawei provides a choice of white, black and purple colors. In Europe, the price of the Huawei Mate Xs 2 is 1,999 euros, starting to be marketed next June.
