We have just entered the 5G era but the development of 6G has already begun in South Korea and China to further increase the speed of cellular internet. Several early trials on a small scale showed potential but still below the actual target of 6G speeds.
Now according to a BusinessKorea report, the South Korean government wants a 6G prototype to be developed by 2026. This is ahead of the original target set. If the prototype is successfully developed in 2026, it could be commercialized as early as 2028 or as late as 2030. South Korea wants to be the first country to offer a 6G network with speeds reaching 1 TB/s-10 times higher than 5G.
Among the 6G targets is cellular communication without any latency with Samsung itself targeting its introduction by 2028. This will drive various other technologies that require fast Internet connections in the near future.
