Pentagon: High-tech weapons will flood Ukraine

Various countries are keen to help Ukraine's weapons to be able to defend against the Russian invasion. Even according to the Pentagon, there will be more high-tech weapons given to Ukraine.

That comes after about 50 defense leaders from around the world met and agreed to provide the assistance, including deploying Harpoon launchers and missiles to protect Ukraine's coast.

The 3.8 meter long Harpoon is an anti-ship missile and can be fired from aircraft, surface ships, submarines, or in coastal defense areas. The price per unit is relatively cheap, around USD 1.5 million.

Harpoons can fly above water to avoid attacks from opponents when aiming at their targets. The tip has a warhead weighing 221 kilograms that will explode once it reaches its target.

The missile is expected to be able to disrupt Russia's blockade of Ukrainian waters. In addition, there will be assistance with new war equipment including attack helicopters, tanks and rocket systems.

"After today's discussions, I am pleased to report that we are intensifying our efforts and continuing to deepen coordination and cooperation so that Ukraine can strengthen its war operations," said US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

"Our concerted efforts will also fortify and strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces, to assist them in deterring future Russian aggression," he added, as quoted by the Associated Press.

The Russian blockade in Ukraine is feared to disrupt global food supplies and raise prices of basic commodities. Ukraine is a big grain producer. That is why the aid of heavy weapons from various western countries was deployed to Ukraine with the aim of destroying Russian ships.
