Sex is one of the keys to a harmonious marriage. Even though you and your husband are religiously allowed to have a variety of sex variations, there are some sex positions that are prohibited in Islam.
What sex positions are prohibited in Islam and why are they discouraged? Every sex position that is prohibited in Islam is actually not without purpose but there are religious and medical reasons behind it.
There are several sex positions that are prohibited in Islam, such as woman on top (WOT), through the anus, to during menstruation. Allah SWT said in the letter Al Baqarah verse 223 regarding the sexual position of husband and wife in Islam. Husbands are encouraged to choose sex positions that are good for you and your husband.
It means:
"Your wives are fields for you, so come to your fields whenever and in a way that you like. And prioritize (good) for yourself. Fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And convey good news to Him. believers."
Although it is permissible to have sex in various ways, it should not be harmful to health. Here are the reasons why some sex positions are prohibited in Islam.
1. WOT sex position
WOT sex position is one that is not recommended in Islam. Quoting from the book 'The Crown of the Bride' by Majdi bin Manshur bin Sayyid ash-Syuri', the WOT sex position is not recommended in Islam for religious and health reasons.
Religiously, the WOT sex position is not recommended in Islam because it contradicts the normal position that Allah has ordained for men and women. While medically, the risk of experiencing adverse effects that can occur, such as the husband's sperm is difficult to come out as a whole.
If there is still sperm in the genitals, it can rot and endanger the husband's health. It is also possible for fluid from the wife's genitals to flow into the husband's penis opening which can cause jaundice.
2. Any sex position that is done without foreplay
Any sex position that is performed without foreplay is also prohibited in Islam. A hadith narrates, "Do not have intercourse with your wife as soon as you meet her, but put her in the room for a moment, then kiss her, kiss her and hug her. Because if you do that right away when you meet, it's a despicable thing."
While medically, any sex position that is done without foreplay can hurt women. Sex that is done without foreplay can cause your vagina to dry and experience pain, irritation, and infection during sex.
"A dry vagina can make sex uncomfortable and is the most common cause of post-sex discomfort," says Alyssa Dweck, MD, assistant clinical professor of gynecology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, United States, as reported by Women's Health.
3. Sex positions performed through the anus
The next sex position that is prohibited by Islam is intercourse through the anus. There are religious and medical reasons why this sex position is forbidden in Islam.
The reason this sexual position is prohibited in Islam from a religious perspective is because it is not liked by Allah SWT and it is a big sin, Rasulullah SAW said;
"Cursed is anyone who comes to his wife in her rectum." (HR. Abu Dawud (2162)
"Allah does not look at a man who has intercourse with his wife in his rectum." (Narrated by Ahmad (2/344) and At-Tarmidhi (1/218))
"Whoever has intercourse with a woman who is menstruating or a woman in her anus, or goes to a shaman and believes in her, then he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad."
This sex position is prohibited in Islam because it is a big sin and even the perpetrator can be killed if it is done to children. If it is done to the wife, it must be punished.
Allah SWT forbids intercourse through the anus because it is a permanent place of discharge. This will provide opportunities to commit crimes from women's anus to children's.
While based on medical, the anus is not prepared and not created for sexual activity. This can be dangerous for men because they can't pull all the sperm from the penis because of their deviated position. Not to mention it takes a very tiring motion because it violates something natural.
4. Any sex position during menstruation
Another sex position that is forbidden in Islam is that which is done while you are menstruating. In accordance with the word of Allah SWT as stated in the letter Al Baqarah verse 222 regarding sex and menstruation which reads;
It means:
"And they ask you (Muhammad) about menstruation. Say, "That's something dirty." Therefore stay away from the wife during menstruation; and do not approach them until they are holy. When they are pure, mix them according to what Allah has commanded you. Indeed, Allah loves those who repent and loves those who purify themselves."
Allah SWT forbids it because the blood that comes out during menstruation is dirt and has ordered husbands not to have intercourse with women while menstruating.

5. Any sex positions while fasting during the day in Ramadan
Another sex position that is prohibited in Islam is intercourse during the day during the month of Ramadan. Having sex while fasting during Ramadan is not only invalid but also a sin.
If this style of husband and wife relationship is prohibited in Islam, then you have to pay a fine (kaffara) if you have sex with your husband during the day during the month of Ramadan. What's the fine?
Based on the book 'Fiqh of the Five Schools' written by Muhammad Jawad Mughniyah, the penalty in question can be in the form of fasting for two consecutive months or providing food to the poor. This is also mentioned in a hadith;
It means:
"Abu Hurairah narrated that a man came to the Messenger of Allah and said, "Woe to me! I interfere with my wife (during the day) in Ramadan. He said, "Free a female slave." The man answered, "I can't." He again said, "Fasting for two consecutive months." The man answered again, "I can't." He again said, "Give food to sixty poor people." (Narrated by Bukhari)
Medically, any sex position that is done while fasting in the month of Ramadan can also weaken sexual desire because making love on an empty stomach or hungry. This can make the body tremble and weaken the body's strength.
6. Any sex position while I'tikaf
If this sexual position is prohibited in Islam, it has been confirmed by Allah SWT through His words in the Qur'an. In accordance with the letter Al-Baqarah verse 187, regarding the prohibition of having sex while i'tikaf in the mosque.
It means:
"It is lawful for you on the night to fast mixed with your wife. They are clothes for you, and you are clothes for them. Allah knows that you cannot restrain yourself, but He accepts your repentance and forgives you. So now intervene with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you. Eat and drink until it becomes clear to you (the difference) between the white thread and the black thread, namely dawn. Then complete the fast until (coming) night. But do not interfere with them, when you are doing iktikaf in the mosque. That is the provision of Allah, so do not approach it. Thus Allah explains His verses to people, so that they may become pious.”
