These two phones first launched in their home country in March 2022, where there were three variants released. Namely Black Shark 5, Black Shark 5 Pro, and Black Shark 5 RS. Of the three variants, only two were released globally, namely the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro.
A significant difference from the various variants is the system on a chip used. Where the Black Shark 5 uses the Snapdragon 870 SoC, then the Pro variant uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and the RS variant uses the Snapdragon 888. Oh yes, the Pro variant uses faster RAM too, which is 6,400MHz vs 5,500 MHz.
The cameras are actually different, but considering that the Black Shark is a gaming phone, this difference shouldn't have much effect. The Black Shark 5 uses the main camera with a 64MP sensor, while the Pro variant has a 108MP sensor.
Other than that, the specifications are relatively the same. Both the Black Shark 5 and 5 Pro sport a 6.67-inch FHD+ 144Hz AMOLED display, with a touch sampling rate of 720Hz and a removable magnetic trigger button. Both are also equipped with stereo speakers.
Likewise, the battery capacity is both 4,650 mAh and supports a 120W charger, which is claimed to be able to charge the battery from empty to full in 15 minutes, or 24 minutes in battery-sparring mode. Both also support the battery bypass feature, which allows gamers to use external power sources while playing games without the need to go through the internal battery.
The operating system used is JoyUI 13 which is based on Android 12. Along with the cellphone, there is also the Black Shark JoyBuds Pro which was released at the same time. These TWS earphones have a low latency (40ms) gaming mode, a total battery life of up to 30 hours, and IPX4 water resistance.
This Black Shark JoyBuds Pro uses the Snapdragon Sound platform, supports aptX Adaptive. The driver used is 12mm in size and has adaptive ANC (40db) that supports modes such as wind reduction. Price? USD 80.
