The new Dell XPS 13 and Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 were announced this week. What innovations did Dell make on this year’s model? The answer is a redesign of internal components with the motherboard having a size 1.8 times smaller than last year’s model. The result is thinner, lighter laptops and tablet computers and a more compact design.
The Dell XPS 13 comes with a 13.4 ″ screen with resolution up to 4K, Dolby Vision and touch support, powered by an Intel Gen-12 U series chip, memory up to 32GB LPDDR5-5200, storage up to 1TB SSD PCIe 4.0, and a 51Wh battery.
Smartphone motherboard technology is used on the XPS 13 to produce a much smaller motherboard. The result is that Dell is able to place speakers with a larger 4W -powered audio chamber. Network support is WiFi 6E, and bluetooth 5.2 tethering. I/O options are quite limited with only two US-C Thunderbolt 4 ports. The webcam is also just 720P. The entire laptop weighs only 1.17 kg.
The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is equipped with a 13 ″ screen with a resolution of up to 3K, Dolby Vision, touch support and XPS stylus. It is powered by an Intel Gen-12 U series chip, memory up to 16GB LPDDR4x-4266, storage up to 1TB SSD PCIe 4.0, and a 49.5Wh battery.
There is a 1080p webcam on the front and an 11MP main camera on the back. It also only comes with 2x USB-C Thunderbolt 4. 5G cellular connection is provided as an option along with WiFi 6E and bluetooth 5.2. The entire computer with a removable keyboard weighs only 736 grams.
