Through IDC's latest partnership for the Malaysian market, they saw the smartphone market to Malaysia in the first quarter of 2022 decline by 28.8% compared to the same period in 2021.
It is said one of the main reasons is due to the challenges for low -spec 4G models, especially by Chinese manufacturers who are impressed with the impact in the country.
In addition, the rising cost of living in Malaysia in early 2022 will also have an impact on the form of spending - where food is preferred over spending on smartphones. The festive season is also making more people spend on clothes than mobile devices for the year.
Overall for 2022, IDC targets the Malaysian smartphone market to decline by 5%.
Various smartphone brands are also said to be still not optimistic that Malaysia will see high 5G usage in 2022.
