Lawyers Want To Be Trained To Fight Facebook

Frances Haugen, the whistleblower who leaked data and various internal documents from Facebook formed a non-profit organization called Beyond the Screen, which aims to fight Facebook.

Through Beyond the Screen, Haugen has three main goals. The first is educating lawyers who have the potential to fight various social media companies such as Facebook.

Second, incentivize investors to test the social responsibility of a technology company before injecting funds, and finally, inform regulators and researchers about how social media platforms work.

Haugen is currently working with two people on this project, and is seeking funding with a target of USD 5 million for his organization to operate. So far, it is reported that he has received some funding, but the source is not stated, as quoted by us from The Verge, Wednesday (22/6/2022).

He hopes that Beyond the Screen can provide additional knowledge for lawyers involved in class action lawsuits against social media companies. He also wants to make a special measurement that can be used by investors to assess how much technology companies intend to maintain the security of their users.

But in the end, Haugen also wants to create a social media simulation, which can be used to demonstrate and test a platform, as well as see how the algorithm works.

The goal is for people to better understand how a company like this works, without involving the original company.

In 2021, Haugen also expressed his desire to create an open source social network for students of all ages. This social network can be used for learning and experimenting by these students.
