Nasi Padang Babi goes viral on Twitter, reaps criticism and the seller is arrested by the police

Since Friday (10/7), Nasi Padang has become a trending topic on Twitter. This started with Hilmi Firdausi's tweet about the seller of Padang rice with pork on Instagram (@babiambo). According to him, this is contrary to the principles of the Minang people.

"In my opinion, this has gone beyond the limits. The Minang people adhere to the Basandi Syarak Kitabullah Indigenous principle. Padang cuisine is world-famous for its taste, delicacy & halalness. Please don't spoil it. Even if it's a marketing trick, it's gone too far. Hilmi said on Twitter.

Hilmi's tweet immediately sparked controversy. There are many people who express opinions about the pros and cons of the Padang pork rice menu made by @babiambo.

Sergio, a business owner in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, admitted that he was surprised that his closed Padang rice business was suddenly bustling on social media. He admitted that he was also affected by Covid-19 so he only sold online for three months in 2020.

This pork Padang rice business was revealed after the Minang Family Association (IKM) received a complaint about the veracity of the pork Padang rice business.

This Padang rice business Instagram account also promotes its wares on Instagram and also explains how to order it through one of the marketplaces. Not to forget, this account also uploaded pictures of the food being sold, such as pork rendang, pork curry, to grilled pork.

Instagram @babiambo also explained the profile of Padang rice which became the first non-halal in Indonesia. He wrote a caption on his Instagram account, namely "First in Indonesia, a Non-Halal Padang food". However, after going viral, Sergio's business social media account disappeared.

Not only that, this Padang rice business used the name Babiambo, which led to criticism from the Member of the DPR for the West Sumatra II electoral district, John Kenedy Azis, who explained the meaning of the name Babiambo.

John explained that in Minang language, 'ambo' means 'I'. He regretted that someone made Padang rice with the name Babiambo, which means I am a pig.

Until now, Padang Sergio's rice business has not found any criminal elements so it has not been followed up by the North Jakarta Police because they are still investigating, so the owner is still a witness.
