Satellite On Mars Finally Receives Windows 98 Update After 19 Years Of Operation

Last week we received news NASA would begin shutting down systems on the Voyager and Voyager 2 space trials to extend a mission that has been running for nearly five decades. After passing through stellar space, the Voyager brothers are the farthest man -made objects ever traveled in outer space.

But it’s not the only man-made object out there. The Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionospheric Sounding (MARSIS) satellite orbiting Mars has also been on a mission since 2003. After 19 years in office, the European Space Agency (ESA) is now ready to update its Windows 98 -based software.

The new software is expected to enhance MARSIS 'ability to detect the presence of water on Mars and monitor its atmosphere before the data is sent back to Earth. Additionally with software optimization, larger areas can be scanned at one time. The new operating system that MARSIS will use has not been announced by ESA.

MARSIS is a historic satellite for discovering an underground water reservoir on Mars in 2018.
