Georgi Putra and his colleague Fredy Yanto marry infrastructure and building projects with skilled craftsmen using technology. Both of them are the 1st winner of Hackathon Tech in Asia 2015.
This 'marriage' is considered to be a break in the chain of difficulties for project owners to get skilled craftsmen, and for craftsmen to find work.
It is known, in 2019, Georgi and Freddy built Gravel which aims to find thousands of construction workers looking for work through public platforms such as posts on social media.
Both realized that limited resources made projects look for thousands of construction workers without being able to find qualified builders to suit their needs.
"On the other hand, workers in the informal sector, seeking work by all means at every opportunity, is a must to ensure their needs are met tomorrow," said Georgi in a written statement, Monday (20/6/2022).
Since 2019, the two young people have succeeded in building the "Gravel" application which helps thousands of project owners to find quality-assured construction workers, manage work times according to their needs and control the project progress of the workers through the application without having to come to the site. Meanwhile, thousands of construction partners have also been channeled and found jobs.
"Gravel has a mission to open more jobs and increase the prosperity of construction workers. Because Gravel is to reach out and make it easier for project owners in other areas, to get quality construction workers, and open up greater job opportunities for construction workers," said Georgi CEO Gravel's son.
Gravel is here carrying the tagline "Today's Work, Tomorrow Will Be Payday." This is in line with Gravel's policy which ensures that a salary is paid every day, so that construction workers can meet the needs of their families and improve their standard of living.
"The hope is that it can eliminate workers' worries about food costs, transportation costs to and from the project site, and money that must be sent to families at home, so they can focus on completing projects on time. Payments that can be disbursed every day will also form financial independence for the workers. craftsmen and maintain harmonious relations between people in the project," he explained.
One of the CEOs of Gravel Fredy Yanto also said that the second problem that must be addressed is project efficiency, especially in terms of finding workers. In a construction project, 30 percent to 50 percent of the project costs are for the procurement and operation of workers.
"In addition to daily wages, the procurement and operation of the handymen includes the cost of finding and transporting the builders to the project site. These builders generally only have access to projects that are available through acquaintances," he said.
According to him, the foreman usually takes about 7 days to meet the demand for the large number of builders. The problems didn't stop there. After the handyman arrives, the project owner still has to deal with the issue of the quality of the builders and their commitment to the completion of the ongoing project.
"Gravel was born and wants to be one of the success stories by successfully opening jobs for thousands of builders throughout Indonesia to find work and solve the problems of project builders who have difficulty finding reliable builders through technology," he concluded.
