TikTok Now Uses Oracle Services To Store US User Data

If you follow the development of the trade war between the United States and China, you certainly know that TikTok is one of the most talked about companies especially because of the popularity of such short video platforms around the world.

At one point, it was once reported that ByteDance wanted to sell their stake in TikTok to Oracle to ensure the platform could continue to operate in the United States, which is one of their largest markets.

After Joe Biden became President of the United States, TikTok was not sold, and given the flexibility to operate under certain conditions, among which was that U.S. user data could not be accessed by ByteDance or anyone in China.

Although the acquisition by Oracle did not take place, TikTok is reportedly still using the company’s services to transfer U.S. user data to the country through an initiative called Project Texas.

Project Texas is an initiative to not only ensure that US TikTok user data is transferred to the country securely, but also to ensure that it cannot be accessed by any individual from outside the country, particularly China.

TikTok also confirmed that for now, they are still using the backup system from Singapore, but the data will also be disposed of where the backup data will also be stored in the United States.

The Project Texas initiative was reportedly started a year ago, and TikTok itself confirmed that now, 100 percent of the data uploaded to TikTok in the United States will go through the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure system to ensure that the data is not sent out of the country.
