The Butterfly keyboard was introduced in 2015 to replace the Magic Keyboard that has been used for years to produce thinner laptops. The keys with the butterfly wing mechanism have a shallower vertical movement and cause various issues to users every year.
Apple this week agreed to settle a class action lawsuit previously filed in California by paying $50 Million (~RM222 million) in damages to users who experienced issues with the butterfly key. Affected customers will receive damages ranging from $50 to $395 per person based on the damage that occurred.
Unfortunately this compensation will only affect users from California, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, and Michigan only. Apple has increased the warranty period of the butterfly key to four years after purchase to all MacBook models after only giving it to certain models.
