The lock fob used on modern Honda cars allows for unlocking without pressing a button, locking the car automatically when moving away from the car and starting the engine remotely. But with the sophistication of the key fob, there is a problem of security vulnerabilities that can result in Honda -made cars being stolen.
The vulnerability named Rolling-Pwn was discovered by researchers from Star-V Lab Kevin2600 and Wesley. It is found on all Honda vehicle key phones released from 2012-2022. The system should change the verification code randomly each time the lock and unlock process is performed by the owner. But the vulnerability causes hackers to be able to use old codes from previously stolen sessions to unlock as well as turn on vehicles.
In a statement given to Gizmodo, Honda said for that high expertise is needed and hackers are at close range. That’s why Honda vehicle owners don’t have to worry about safety at this time.
