The new Huawei MatePad Pro will be marketed in Malaysia next August. There are no issues in terms of comfort when using this tablet. The tablet's aluminum body construction with rounded sides makes it comfortable and neat in the hand. At the same time, it is also light and easy to carry anywhere. Not only that, the matte finish used is quite good to prevent dirt from sticking easily. The back panel is quite rough at the same time making the tablet not feel smooth in the hand.

As the name suggests, the 11-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels (WQXGA) with a screen-to-body ratio of 92% is of the OLED type. The screen also supports a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate but the option to change it to 60Hz or 120Hz all the time if needed is also included through the settings. It's just that the screen resolution is the only thing that can't be changed. Next, the position of the 16-Megapixel selfie camera is located on the upper right corner through the use of a perforated screen. The size of the bezel also appears to be even on all four sides of the tablet screen.

One thing that catches the eye is the round camera bump on the back of the tablet. However, it appears to be quite high at the same time causing the tablet to be difficult to place flat on the table. Through it, Huawei has also placed a main dual-camera system with a 13-Megapixel (main) + 8-Megapixel (ultra-wide) setting along with an LED Flash in the same camera module. The camera's capabilities here are capable of taking photos at ratios of 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9.

Some additional photography functions such as Photo, Video, Beauty, Time-lapse, Stickers and Document are also included to enable the recording of various photos or videos to be produced. At the highest settings, videos can be recorded up to 4K resolution at 30fps. Not to be left out, the process of taking pictures can also be done with voice control through several setting options such as saying keywords (Say keyword) or speaking loudly (Speak loudly).

The only port on the tablet is USB-C placed on the bottom for charging. Then, the top part houses the power button with a red finish that should be easy to find. The audio controls are also well built and can be found on the right side. Not only that, six speakers tuned by Huawei Sound are used for a more immersive audio experience. However, the 3.5mm audio jack support is not included in the body of a tablet weighing 449 grams.

The tablet comes with two processing chip options that also support different charging systems. It uses a Snapdragon 888 chip with 66W fast charging. Meanwhile, the variant with Snapdragon 870 is supplied with 40W fast charging. However, neither tablet comes with 5G capabilities.

The combination of 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage is also felt to be sufficient for most users. Next the tested tablet is a wifi only version and because of that there is no room for a SIM slot to be found. However, Huawei Malaysia has informed which LTE variant will also be offered later.

An 8,300mAh battery is also used with an advertised usage capability capable of lasting up to 11.5 hours on a single charge. When the battery runs out, it can be recharged using the charging head and USB-C connection cable provided free of charge in the purchase box. Not to be left out, several options for setting security on the tablet are also included for more diverse use. For example, such as the face scan system, the use of passwords and the ability to unlock the tablet using other connected devices.

Usage Experience

Overall, the design on the MatePad Pro 11 tablet is good and neat. The brief usage experience also shows a fairly bright tablet screen with good color quality. Not only that, the large screen size is also able to present a more immersive video watching experience. We also didn't notice any issues while trying it out as the 120Hz refresh rate kept the tablet running smoothly.

Speaker capabilities are also capable of producing clear and loud audio. But unfortunately the relatively short use made us unable to fully test the audio performance. The tablet also comes with the new operating system HarmonyOS 3.0 which has a neat upgrade. For example, the Folder Card feature that allows users to rearrange widgets so that the home screen always looks neat. At the same time, the interface has also been redesigned to make it easier to use.

Additional Accessories Supported

Matching some additional accessories can also be used on this tablet for a better usage experience. For example, a physical keyboard that also doubles as a protective frame on a tablet. It uses plastic-based materials and a leather-like texture with chicklet-type keys. The connection on the tablet is magnetic and complete with a stick on the back and can be folded up to 165 degrees. At the same time, it also supports hidden features that are said to improve Wi-Fi connection performance up to 20% better. Our brief testing found the typing experience to be satisfying. But we are less comfortable with it due to the relatively small size of the keyboard.

Next, the second generation Stylus M-Pencil can also be used on this tablet. Its capabilities have been enhanced with the ability to detect pressure levels up to 30% better. It also works magnetically for connection purposes or wireless charging on tablets. At the same time, a new all-white color option was also introduced along with an additional frame to prevent the possibility of damage or loss. Not only that, a number of interesting features are also supported by the pencil such as Capture Colors Across Applications and Mojing Paint App.

Conclusion

The Huawei MatePad 11 will be marketed in Malaysia around next August. In terms of design, this tablet has a good design. It is comfortable to hold in the hand with a boxy body and rounded sides of the screen. The main strength of the tablet is the support of two different processing chips in giving more options for users. However there is no 5G capability supported by the tablet. Further improvements have also been made to a number of aspects to make the use of the tablet better. We also didn't notice any issues while trying it out as the 120Hz refresh rate kept the tablet running smoothly.
