Meta announced their Novi digital wallet app will be discontinued starting September 1st. Novi which was originally launched in 2020 as a digital wallet for Diem currency. The Diem Union set up to support this digital currency was sold out earlier this year.
Novi users can no longer add credit into the app starting July 21, 2022. They are advised to transfer the available money to the bank as soon as possible before September 1.
The Meta digital currency project faced various objections when it was announced as Calibra three years ago. With its own currency, meta wants to facilitate transfers among their users globally without the banking barriers that have existed for so long.
It initially got the support of banks, credit cards and major apps before it was pulled one by one due to privacy issues that might exist if data was shared with Facebook at the time.
