Mojo Vision Showcases Fully Functional AR Contact Lenses

Google and Samsung previously patented the design of contact lenses that can be used as a replacement for smart glasses that need to be worn on the face. But Mojo Vision a company from the U.S. first showcased their augmented reality (AR) contact lenses that are not just conceptual but fully functional.

These AR contact lenses have been developed since 2015 and are only now being tested by the company’s CEO Drew Perkins. It is equipped with a 0.5mm MicroLED screen but with a pixel density of 14,000 PPI which is much higher than a smartphone.

The built -in ARM Core M0 processor on the lens supplies the processing requirements. Add to that the amazing lens also equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer. A battery is placed on the rim of the lens.

Currently the display only supports green with Perkins saying the lens detects eye and lens movements well. Unlike Facebook, Google and Oppo smart glasses, Mojo Vision contact lenses operate independently without having to be strapped to a smartphone. Mojo Vision will continue the development of these AR contact lenses before they can be marketed to the public.
