Last month we published an article that the use of tri-cameras and quad-cameras on entry-level and low-mid devices is a gimmick that hurts consumers. Often the macro sensor and depth sensor used are of such low quality that they are not used at all. It is better to include a good dual-camera than a mediocre quad-camera.
Now according to The Elec report, Samsung will stop using the depth sensor on the Galaxy A54, Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A24 in 2023. The action was taken after feeling that this sensor is just a gimmick that is not very useful. In addition to that, the optimization of the main camera and the reduction of the cost of the device are done by Samsung to give competition to devices from China in the same segment.
Hopefully these rumors come true because the gimmick is a waste while a better sensor can be given to the main sensor for better photographic performance.
