IDC: Global Demand For Tablets Up Slightly, Chromebooks Decline

The years 2020 and 2021 show a very high increase for devices such as laptops, tablets and even Chromebook computers due to the need to work from home.

After showing two years of increased sales, the world is finally seen back to the way it used to be where the focus of work is seen to be more concerned with the ability to work hybrid, a combination of working inside and outside the office.

A recent IDC report focused on the production of tablets and even Chromebook devices, which showed a different fate. For tablet devices, IDC said that the device showed a 0.15 percent higher production quarter-on-quarter when compared to the total production in the second quarter of 2021 with the same quarter this year.

It was reported that as many as 40.5 million tablet units were marketed this quarter, with IDC saying that tablet devices are seen not only as a better computer replacement, but also more easily integrated into the curriculum regardless of learning level.

As expected, Apple and Samsung are seen leading the tablet market with devices such as the Apple iPad series and the Samsung Galaxy Tab being more popular among users of these devices.

In the meantime, Chromebook devices continue to record a decline in terms of device marketing, showing a 51 percent drop in the second quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of last year with only around 6 million Chromebook devices being marketed.

Dell, Acer and Lenovo are seen to be leading the Chromebook market despite each posting declining demand sales. For the previous two years, the demand for Chromebooks was seen to be very high due to the need for cheap and effective electronic devices for home and out-of-school learning purposes.

But IDC says that the marketing of these devices is still higher compared to the numbers before the COVID-19 pandemic happened, so it can be seen that there is still a high demand for these devices.
