The United States Will Begin Using Drones To Sweep The Fire Pots

The use of mines in naval warfare has been used since the Ming Dynasty in the 14th century. It is still used today and can be seen in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. To clear shipping lanes, minesweepers are used by the navy. The United States, which is increasing the use of military drones, is now ready to use drones as mine sweepers.

The Unmanned Influence Sweep System (UISS) is a drone that has been given an initial operational certificate for use by the U.S. Navy. It can travel as far as 140 kilometers by remaining operational for up to 20 hours. Various sensors and sonar allow it to detect various types of mines that exist. The UISS can operate semi-autonomously as it also uses a diesel engine.

The UISS is designed to be launched from littoral ships and various other types of aircraft carriers, with it only being lowered when entering waters suspected of containing mines. Users of the UISS are expected to reduce the risk to sailors as it can replace the minesweepers currently in use.
