WhatsApp has developed a new security feature to protect its user accounts from being easily hijacked. The new feature is called 'Login approval'.
This feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.17.22. This feature is currently under development and not yet available for beta testers.
As the name implies, the Login approval feature allows WhatsApp users to receive alerts if someone else tries to access their account. Users who receive this warning can allow or deny the login request.
This feature will be very useful for users who unknowingly fall victim to WhatsApp account phishing. So WhatsApp users who have already provided a one-time password (OTP) code to an unknown person can immediately reject the login request.
In addition, this security warning will also provide complementary information that is quite useful, such as login times and other information about other cellphones, which may be about the type of cellphone used to log in, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Sunday (7/8/2022).
It is not yet known when this feature will be available for beta testers because it is currently still in the development stage. Hopefully it will be released by WhatsApp soon because from the preview revealed by WABetaInfo this feature will be very helpful for users.
If released, the Login approval feature will add a new layer to the security of WhatsApp accounts belonging to two billion users. Currently WhatsApp users can secure their accounts by activating two-step verification where users will be asked to enter a PIN when logging in on other devices.
WABetaInfo also previously revealed the presence of a dual verification code feature that is being developed by WhatsApp. With this feature, users who have entered the OTP code and successfully logged into their account will be asked to enter a second OTP code sent via SMS.
