Because the game has been taken over by the popular newspaper company The New York Times, the game will no longer be accessible for free. The NYT bought Wordle for seven figures, so in order to generate revenue – Wordle will eventually cost you. While fees apply, the NYT will display ads on the Wordle site soon.
Since the NYT bought Wordle, their paid subscribers have also increased. With a target to reach 15 million customers in 2027, they will try various ways to attract more customers. They will also make gaming a business focus.
The ads that will be displayed are said to not interfere with the playing experience. This ad is also not limited to Wordle, but also on their other games such as Crossword, Mini crossword, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, Tiles, and Vertex.
