Xiaomi Showcases Human-Like Robot Named CyberOne

Xiaomi just showed off its newest foldable phone, the MIX Fold 2. But at the same launch event, Xiaomi showed off an unexpected surprise, a robot called CyberOne.

CyberOne is a humanoid robot or a robot that is physically similar to a human. This robot was introduced on stage in person by Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun.

CyberOne had time to demonstrate his abilities on stage with the help of Lei Jun. After a short walk on stage, CyberOne gave Lei Jun a flower and then took a selfie with him.

The Xiaomi CyberOne is 177 cm tall and weighs about 52 kg. By Xiaomi, this robot has been given the nickname 'Metal Bro' and since it was announced in August this robot also has the zodiac Leo.

CyberOne is the second robot product launched by Xiaomi Robotics Lab, after CyberDog which was released in August 2021. Its design is similar to several other humanoid robots such as the Atlas robot made by Boston Dynamics, and Tesla's robotic Tesla Bot which has not yet been launched.

The CyberOne robot has a face displayed in an OLED panel. Thanks to the Mi-Sense depth vision module technology, CyberOne can see the surrounding environment in 3D while recognizing individuals, gestures, and human expressions.

Xiaomi equipped this robot with MiAI technology and two microphones that allow CyberOne to recognize 85 types of environmental sounds and 45 classifications of human emotions.

Not only that, Xiaomi claims CyberOne can detect someone's happiness and even comfort users when they are sad. For use in the real world, CyberOne is claimed to be able to help manufactures to become human friends.

"With AI at its core and the humanoid framework as the platform, this is an exploration of the future potential of the Xiaomi technology ecosystem and a new breakthrough for the company," said Lei Jun, as quoted from Engadget, Saturday (13/8/2022).

Lei Jun said that currently the CyberOne robot costs 600,000-700,000 Yuan to produce. So Xiaomi doesn't seem to be going to mass-produce this robot for sale yet.

While waiting for the CyberOne robot to be mass produced, Xiaomi will continue to add new capabilities and features to its first humanoid robot.
