India Reportedly Wants Phone Makers to Include India's Navigation System, NaVIC

India with a population of over 1 billion people, and the goal of becoming the most populous country soon, is now also starting to take steps to reduce its dependence on external technology little by little.

Most recently, the Indian government is reportedly looking at forcing technology companies, especially device manufacturers to integrate India's navigation system, the NaVIC – as an alternative to GPS.

NaVIC is also said to offer more accurate domestic navigation support, in addition to giving advantages to the local economy in India.

Regardless, it is said that some manufacturers, such as Apple, Xiaomi and Samsung, have asked for the matter to be delayed – saying it would require more research, as well as higher production costs.

It will be quite difficult to achieve the target of the Indian government, if the Indian government sets the integration of NaVIC support as an alternative to GPS as early as January 2023.

For information, apart from India, there are several countries with their own national navigation systems, including China, the EU, Japan and even Russia.
