Apple Reportedly Delaying Purchases of Memory Chips From YMTC Due to U.S. Trade Restrictions

Apple was previously reported to buy memory chips produced by Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC) for use in iPhones in the Chinese market before the order increased to supply 40% of the iPhone's memory needs in the near future. But YMTC was put on a list of decertified companies by the Biden administration last week.

According to a Nikkei Asia report, Apple has now temporarily suspended the purchase of memory chips from YMTC after the order was issued. Companies from the U.S. are not allowed to share designs, technology, documents and technology specifications with companies from China without requesting a special license.

This is part of a U.S. move to prevent sensitive cutting-edge technology from falling into the hands of the Chinese Liberation Army who then use civilian technology for military purposes. The measures taken are very drastic because it not only involves hardware and software but also the citizens of the United States.
